Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works as a commentator for NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She received an undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She became a Washington general reporter to NBC News two years later. The year 1981 saw her begin working for the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. In 1992, she was made Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell has been a panelist as well as host of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell participated on a panel during the debate in 1988 between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at The John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on a variety of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, as well as arms control. Mitchell traveled along with Ronald Reagan on numerous occasions for summits, and to discuss issues including that of the Iran Contra controversy.
